Will I ever grow up? Will I ever see a time when, on getting sick, I won’t long for my mother to tuck the extra pillow under my head, to bring me a cup full of orange juice and a flexi-straw, to soothe me out of a coughing fit by her loving embrace rocking me to stillness? Will I ever take cold medicine without imagining the pills in her open palm or lifted in her gentle fingers? Will I ever see a humidifier and not imagine the rickety old one of my youth — a short brown pan with a cone-head fan — that she would carefully perch atop my little desk chair, drawn up beside my bed? Will I ever not desire that small plate with its slice of toast somehow perfectly buttered?

Will I?

I hope not.

Love you, Mom.

(And can I get some more orange juice, please?)

It seems I’ve acquired some nasty contagion from the petri dish that is The Citadel. Swollen lymph nodes, sore throat, stuffed head … blech. It was a miracle my voice held out through yesterday (teaching and meetings from 9:30 am to 9:45 pm), but it did.

Blech.

Did my civic duty today and cast my vote. I hope you do yours, too, when the time comes.

I found it quite fascinating to be part of an early voting state that could impact the national race so strongly. Pretty cool. We’ve had no end to campaigning around here the past few weeks, and it’s been a great chance to get to know the candidates pretty well. I’m rather jealous of folks living in Iowa now, since our exposure pales in comparison to theirs!

Anyway, the big news today, aside from the overwhelming results that spelled victory for O B A M A, was the enormous voter turnout. More folks voted in the South Carolina Democratic Primary than in the Republican one.

Wow. I mean, is this “reddest of the red states” suddenly in play?

Just stumbled across this article from CNet, which is a step-by-step gallery of dissecting an iPod Touch.

I have no interest in doing this sort of thing to mine (unlike the take-apart of my MobilePro executed for painting purposes), but I appreciate seeing it done.

I’ve got to say, seeing things like this, that it really does strike me how amazing these new technologies are. I mean, I had an IBM PCJr when I was a kid. And that was pretty impressive in its time.

Now? Now I have a computer in my pocket. More than that, I have a computer connected to the World.
