The Silence of Late
Posted by Michael Livingston in Homelife on July 13th, 2009
I’d like to tell you what I’ve been up to the past few days, but then I’d have to kill you.
Well, not exactly. But it is moderately hush-hush. So suffice it to say that I’ve been pleasantly busy, mostly in my parents’ garage. And it has involved wrenches, saws, and a small amount of cursing.
The results, I hope, will be shared soon.
In the meantime, be kind to one another.
Colorado!

Did the trip in 2 looooong days, with a few hours napping at a rest area just southeast of St. Louis. We were bone-tired upon arrival in Denver, but after a couple days of rest*, I think we’re all feeling quite happy with the world now.
*Of course, by “rest” I mean tearing off the front end of the Commander to commence playing around with modifications to the rig. We only got it put back together this afternoon.
I love my family.
Journey Begins

Tomorrow. The Jeep is surprisingly full: gear for the kids is not proportionate to their size. There’s a number of last-minute things to handle in the morning — I’m re-caulking the tub, for one thing — but hopefully we’ll get away by mid-morning at the latest.
Then it’s just three days of driving until the Rockies begin to rise like teeth upon a far horizon.
Can’t wait.
Project XK: Underway

The proper build-up of any Jeep begins, of course, with the simple things. For most of us, the first step is always to transfer portable goodies from the old rig to the new one.
Unfortunately for me, many of those goodies happen to be in Colorado still, like my ViAir portable air unit and my beloved first aid kit. (So here’s hoping nobody gets bitten by a poisonous snake on our drive to Colorado in a few days!) I have been able to move over a few things in preparation for the trip, though: the fire extinguisher, a few tools, and some other items of standard equipment. The rest will come soon enough.
Not to worry, though: I’ve done a bit of trip-related work worth reporting about.
