Tolkien in the Spring

For any cadets stumbling around and finding this site, this news is just in:

208: Special Topics (Tolkien) – Livingston

Yep. That’s a class on J.R.R. Tolkien being offered for your attending and learning pleasure this spring, here at The Citadel. And with that 200 number almost everyone can take it.

So tell your friends, kids. Seriously. I want to break triple digits on this one.

I do hope you’ll include some discussion of linguistics, and perhaps a glimpse at Quenya and Sindarin (and their differences).

Bonus points for students who see the phonetics inherent in the Tengwar!

As it happens, I build the class around Tolkien as a philologist, though I do try to keep the invented tongues to a minimum.

So it’s bonus points for correct identification of the roots of the Arkenstone!
