We’re All Related to Jesus (Literally)

I was trying to explain the inter-connectedness of populations in one of my classes this past week — because 1) I can never stay on track and 2) it seemed pertinent with so many folks locally coughing up so much vitriolic racism since Obama’s win — and in the course of that discussion I pointed out as an example the bio-mathematical likelihood that if the Dan Brown whack-jobs conspiracists are right about Jesus having children then we’re all likely to be Jesus’ children.

I was met with blank stares. (Not for the first time in my life.)

Well, here’s a link to a summation of that argument.

A more technical — and therefore way more fun — explanation is here.

  1. May your adoration only grow, Mary. I’m full of strangely fascinating but utterly useless information.

  2. Brown’s novels that feature the lead character Robert Langdon also include historical themes and Christianity as motifs, and as a result, have generated controversy. Brown states on his website that his books are not anti-Christian, though he is on a ‘constant spiritual journey’ himself, and says that his book The Da Vinci Code is simply “an entertaining story that promotes spiritual discussion and debate” and suggests that the book may be used “as a positive catalyst for introspection and exploration of our faith.”^*

    Warm regards
