Summer 2026: Shows, Books, Appearances

Filming on Omaha Beach

Hello there!

As calendars turn to a lovely (I hope!) summer, it seemed a good time to update folks on what I’ve been up to, what I’ve got coming up, and where you can find me over the next few months. First up:

New Shows!

Rebels: Simon de Montfort – out now!

My latest show for History Hit — an app streamer like Netflix — dropped just a couple weeks ago. The third in my series of films about Rebels, this one is centered on Simon de Montfort. If you’ve not tried History Hit, I strongly recommend it! In fact…

Another History Hit show of mine will be releasing on the anniversary of D-Day, June 6, telling the story of a group of American soldiers on Omaha Beach — the same stretch of sand depicted at the start of the film Saving Private Ryan. This was an emotional show to do on the beaches and bluffs of Normandy, and I’m grateful for the chance to move beyond where folks expect to find me in the Middle Ages.

New Books!

On the fiction front, I am thrilled to announce the US and UK publication dates for the re-release of my Shards Trilogy. These beloved books are coming back with new titles, new covers, and even some new short stories!

  • Shards 1 || The Ark and the Empire || out now (UK) | 8/25/26 (US)
  • Shards 2 || The Spear and the Storm || 7/16/26 (UK) | 10/13/26 (US)
  • Shards 3 || The Ring and the Ruin || 1/14/27 (UK) | 1/12/27 (US)

The first of those new stories, “The Aegis and the Oasis,” is an appendix in The Ark and the Empire, but you can also get it separately (as seen above).

On the non-fiction front, last year’s release of Bloody Crowns (US) / The Two Hundred Years War (UK) has gone marvelously. Thank you all for picking it up and reading it! (And if you haven’t, then get to it!) A paperback version will be coming this year, I believe. My recent book on Agincourt is out in paperback now.

New Appearances!

Always happy to say hi to anyone out there in the world. This summer I’m giving a few talks over in Europe (some general, some academic), and in August I’ll be giving a virtual lecture with the Smithsonian that can be enjoyed anywhere in the world.

New Teaser!

In case you were worried, I’m not sitting idle. I’m currently working on my next Big Book of History. It’s the most challenging and exciting project I’ve taken on, and I can’t wait to announce it and share it with you all.

Soon.

  1. Clearly, you remain beyond cool. Your accomplishments make regular folks look like the sluggards we are. It remains one of my great thrills to have had the opportunity to read early drafts of your fiction from the long-ago days. May your travels fuel even greater works of literature — fiction and non-fiction.
